Modelling with functions
Picking the right model (exponential, logarithmic, sinusoidal, rational...) from a table or graph, then finding its parameters. Frequent mistake: the right model with misread parameters.
Secondary 5 · TS sequence
The Technical and Scientific (TS) sequence builds algebra and trigonometry from real situations. We help your teen link the model to the problem and keep every CEGEP option open.

Many parents know SN and CST, fewer know TS. Yet according to the Fédération des cégeps, TS and SN develop the same competencies and cover essentially the same content, with different approaches. In TS, a concept almost always arrives through a situation: a repeating signal, the path of an object, a force applied at an angle.
This approach suits students who learn by handling and measuring things. The flip side: they must be able to move from the context to a mathematical model, then back to the context to conclude. That back and forth is exactly what our tutors train, one step at a time.
Picking the right model (exponential, logarithmic, sinusoidal, rational...) from a table or graph, then finding its parameters. Frequent mistake: the right model with misread parameters.
Growth, decay, half-life, logarithm laws to solve an equation. Many students freeze as soon as the exponent has to be isolated.
Unit circle, radians, period, amplitude, phase shift, applied to repeating phenomena. Mixing degrees and radians causes small but costly errors.
Components, resultant, projection, applied to forces and displacements. A clean diagram comes before any computation.
Interpreting real data, estimating a value, criticizing a model. This is the skill that sets TS apart.
TS is for concrete learners, curious about how things work, who are aiming for a CEGEP technical program (computer science, engineering technology, biology, administration) or a pre-university science program. Like SN it has 6 credits a year, and it is often paired with Secondary 5 chemistry and physics. Our article CST, TS or SN helps you compare.
There is no ministry exam in Secondary 5: school exams are what count, and the results are used for CEGEP admission. The final exam grade calculator shows what mark to aim for.
For Science (Sciences de la nature), TS 5 is accepted exactly like SN 5, together with Secondary 5 chemistry and physics. The first course will then be Differential Calculus (NYA), which demands solid algebra, so it is worth starting in the summer. If your teen is still unsure, compare with Secondary 5 SN.

No. For CEGEP Science, TS 5 and SN 5 are both accepted. The difference is mostly the approach: more concrete in TS, more abstract in SN.
It is the most common switch, since the content overlaps a lot. The details depend on the school, so talk to the teacher and the guidance counsellor.
Yes. Our tutors follow your child's own school workbook and exams, whatever the sequence, and adapt examples to the TS approach.
Yes, that is one of its goals. It prepares in particular for CEGEP technical programs in computer science, engineering, biology or administration. Check the exact prerequisites on the program's page.
Yes. Classes run every day from 9 AM to 9 PM, weekends included, online anywhere in Quebec or in person in Montreal.
