What the exam covers

In French-language schools, the French exam has two days of reading and two days of writing. The math exam spreads over three days: application problems, a longer situational problem and a questionnaire. English schools write an English Language Arts exam and an English version of the math exam.

For 2025-2026, the result counted for 20% of the competencies assessed, the rest coming from the school year. The ministry confirms the weighting every year. What helps most is a small, regular routine, not one week of cramming.

1

Reading

A literary text and an informational text, then questions where the child finds clues and justifies answers.

2

Writing

Plan, draft, revise and copy out a text, with a dictionary and a grammar book.

3

Math

Fractions, decimals, geometry, measurement and statistics in application problems and one longer problem.

4

Stamina

Staying focused for over two hours. It can be practised well before June.

Week by week

A realistic prep plan

Two 60-minute sessions a week with the tutor, plus 2 or 3 short sessions alone. That is exactly the pace of the Blitz packages.

  1. Week 1Find weak spots using this year's tests and the workbook.
  2. Week 2Reading: one text per session, with answers backed by a sentence from the text.
  3. Week 3Math: fractions and multi-step problems, with the allowed reference sheet.
  4. Week 4Writing: one full text with a simple revision method, then a calm day before the exams.
Avoid these

The most common mistakes

  • Answering a reading question without going back to the text.
  • Not explaining the steps in math.
  • Not rereading the text for agreements and spelling.
  • Too much pressure in the last week.
  • Not preparing the allowed reference sheet for the situational problem.

According to the ministry's official schedule, in French schools reading is on May 31 and June 1, 2027, writing on June 2 and 3, and math from June 8 to 10, 2027. English schools write math on the same dates and choose their English Language Arts dates within the window the ministry sets.

What is the January session?

A January 2027 session (from January 12) is held for some students who finish the program early because they are going into intensive English. The school tells the families concerned.

How much do these exams count?

For 2025-2026, they counted for 20% of the competencies assessed. The ministry confirms this every year.

My child is anxious. What can I do?

Keep a small regular routine, talk about the exams as a chance to show what they know, and avoid long sessions in the last week. The tutor works on confidence too.

Are sessions suited to younger children?

Yes. The tutor splits the hour into short activities with small breaks.

The first class is free. Let's see together where your child stands.
