Secondary 5 math: the year that opens CEGEP doors.

There is no ministry exam for Secondary 5 math in the official 2026-2027 schedule: the final exam is written by the school or the school service centre. The mark still matters a lot for CEGEP admission.

Dates come from the Ministère de l'Éducation's official schedule (updated August 28, 2026) or from each CEGEP's calendar. The school sets the time and room: always confirm with the school.

What the exam covers

The date of the Secondary 5 math final exam is to be confirmed by your school. It is usually in the June exam calendar the school publishes in the spring. The January midyear exam is also set by the school.

CEGEPs look at Secondary 5 results, and many programs require Secondary 5 TS or SN math. A good mark in June matters for what comes next, even without a ministry exam.

1

SN 5

Exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric and rational functions, vectors, conics and optimization.

2

TS 5

Functions and modelling, trigonometry, vectors and conics, with many technical contexts.

3

CST 5

Optimization, voting procedures, conditional probability, graphs, equivalent figures and financial math.

4

Reasoning

As in Secondary 4, the work and the justification count as much as the answer.

Week by week

A realistic prep plan

Two 60-minute sessions a week with the tutor, plus 2 or 3 short sessions alone. That is exactly the pace of the Blitz packages.

  1. Week 1Diagnosis using this year's two term exams, and a list of chapters to redo.
  2. Week 2Secondary 4 prerequisites still missing (factoring, basic functions).
  3. Week 3The first big chapter of the sequence, with exam-style problems.
  4. Week 4The second big chapter, then a mix of short questions.
  5. Week 5Timed long problems and writing out full solutions.
  6. Week 6A full practice exam from the teacher, a review of mistakes, then rest.
Avoid these

The most common mistakes

  • Waiting for the June calendar to start reviewing.
  • Carrying Secondary 4 gaps in factoring or functions.
  • Memorizing formulas without knowing when to use them.
  • Not knowing the calculator's functions before the exam.
  • Not checking whether the answer makes sense in context.
